Current Giveaway!

Family, Friends, and Friends of Friends,

Thank you so much for the ways you are supporting us through this adoption journey.  It has been challenging at times, but it is growing our faith in ways we couldn't imagine.  We know that God is a loving Father and has called us to adopt.  He has commanded believers to care for widows and orphans.  We all play different roles in that command. Not everyone is called to adopt, but everyone can be part of caring for orphans.  You can pray with us.  You can help us by spreading the word.  You can even give financially.  We are adopting domestically.  If you want to be part of an international adoption, support our friends here.

We currently have a Giveaway going on which you can enter by sharing about this Giveaway or donating towards our adoption fund.

Here's an update on the rules (more ways to enter!):

Jewelry Party Fundraiser

A friend at my new job offered to do a Premier Designs Jewelry Party to benefit our adoption.  We invited lots of friends and family and even opened it up to our friends through Cares at our apartment complex.  I was thrilled and touched by all those who came--it was a neat mix of family, church friends, work friends, and neighbor friends.  I honestly get kind of emotional when I think about how God uses people from all areas of our lives to help us through this journey of adoption.

One of the girls who came (who we had met through Cares events) shared that she was adopted and wanted to support us however she can.  A sweet blessing.  :)

I didn't take any pictures that day (don't know why), but it will be one that remains in my memory.  Thanks to everyone who came!

Lindsay gave us ALL of her proceeds that day, which amounted to $275.  Thanks so much, Lindsay, for your generous support!

While you're here, enter the Giveaway and let your friends know about it too!

Our next Adoption Fundraiser is underway, and we are SUPER excited about this one.  We love photography and look forward to having some fun family photo shoots with our growing family soon.  We love Valerie Schooling's work, and now even more so since she has donated one of her Mini Portrait sessions (including a disc of all images) toward our adoption!  We will be doing a Giveaway of this fantastic gift (a $450 value!).  (If you are on Facebook, check her out there too!)  Thanks so much Valerie!

    Random Photo, Take 81

Pic 80 was from our Rehearsal Dinner, apparently right after Steven opened his Best Man gift.

    Here's 81...

    Adoption Yard Sale, Round 3

Somehow I have neglected to post about our 3rd round of Adoption Yard Sales, which we had last October!  Mark and Lauren hosted this one at their house, and we had lots of donations from friends and family.
Setting up the night before... with help from our Community Group.
    Some of the "Kids" department...
    Some of the clothes department.
Part of the spread on the Yard Sale day.  Gorgeous weather!
    Some of our shoppers.
Two special buddies for the day.  Big Sis Allie and Chandler who was 3.5 weeks old.
(Why are my pictures sideways?)  Thankful for a good friend to put on a yard sale with!
Apparently Chandler and I were going for the high price of $10 each. Courtesy of Allie.
Matt and Mark were there too, but Matt is admittedly not a morning person.  Don't know why I don't have pics of them though.  A huge bonus for this sale was that someone came late in the afternoon and bought the majority of the stuff we had leftover.

Between sales and donations, we made about $425 that day towards bringing Baby Flagler home.  Thankful for everyone who donated stuff or money or helped out!

See how loved you are, Baby Flagler? :)

    Random Photo, Take 80

Photo 79 was of little miss Allie Estes last February.  She looks SO grownup now.  This was the week we were moving into this apartment, and she was "helping" us unpack.

Here's Random Photo 80.  Starting to rethink my goal of 100 since no one participates anymore... Should I stop at 80? :)

    Updates on Laura's House

Laura's house continues to look more and more like "Laura".  Here are some more pictures of the transformation...

    Priming on Christmas Eve!

    Taking down the chair rail

Freshening up the shutters the day after Christmas.

    Matt painted the door.

Bright colors eventually got put on the wall, sometime in the last couple of weeks.

It reminds me of Rainbow Row... Peach, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple... :)

This was challenging to paint, but Laura's good friend Jess was an awesome painter!

    New floors in the kitchen!
See?  It's coming along quite nicely.  It's amazing what new floors, some paint and updated lighting and hardware can do to a house.  Super proud of my sister for being so responsible and such a hard worker! :)

    Currently...

I’ve seen this posted a bunch over the last couple of months.  Trying to kill some time before the championship game, so here goes... (I took mine from Kristin.)

    Right now I am…
watching:  Nothing but will soon be watching the aforementioned game.
eating:  Just finished a plate of nachos.  My go-to home-alone meal.
    drinking:  Crystal Light Lemonade.
wearing: new pjs my mom got me for my birthday (thanks, mom!).
avoiding:  trying to figure out how to fix our vacuum/Cares expenses/bills.
    feeling:  overwhelmed yet thankful.
    missing:  good friends.
thankful:  for God orchestrating my job to become full-time with benefits.
weather:  up and down but nice today. had the sunroof open in the car and windows open in the apartment.
praying:  about how God is going to grow our family, about loving our neighbors
needing:  A maid and time in the Word. (I'll copy Kristin on this one!)
thinking:  about Valerie & Zebediah's upcoming wedding.  lots of details to still work out.
loving:  My new Kindle, Matt's new car, Nala, and being a Cares team (most days).

You?  What are you up to?

    Monday, Monday

Last Monday, I didn't go to work.  But I got paid for it! :)
And today, I did go to work.  And I got paid for it. :)

These are new developments for which I'm thankful.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.  A job makes a huge difference!  For me, this job is an answer to many prayers.  It's not perfect, but it's exactly where I'm meant to be.  And knowing that I'm where I'm supposed to be is priceless.

For a project-oriented gal like myself, this is a site of happiness. :)

    That's all for today... :)

    Matt's Christmas Present

The 1994 Taurus, May it Rest in Peace.
Matt had a pretty special Christmas present this year.  (The back story) In November, he was rear-ended which resulted in no bumper and a slightly bent frame.  The insurance company gave us a check for about $750.  We held onto it for a couple weeks trying to decide what to do.  We weren't sure his car was worth investing that money in when it could go towards another car.
Broken down in the middle of the highway. Not a fun place to spend 3+hours.

The week before Christmas, he blew a tire on the way to work.  The other rear tire had treads showing.  So we were looking at $400 in tires at the minimum since the front tires really needed to be replaced too.  Again, not sure we wanted to put so much money into this car.  (Remember, this car has no a/c, needed to be entered through the passenger door, front window wouldn't roll down, and considerable shuddering & jolting while driving.)  Once we got the car towed to the repair shop (after 3+ hours waiting for AAA on the highway!), the car also wouldn't start, and it was determined to be the transmission failing.
We decided not to put any more money into fixing the Taurus.  We sold it for scrap metal and got more than we expected.
Then, we decided to go car shopping.  And moped shopping.  We were leaning towards a moped because we could pay cash for one, and it would be less gas and no insurance.  But I just couldn't come to peace with it.  Matt had also looked at a couple of cars.  We got pre-approved for a car loan at a really good interest rate.  And we had a decent amount to put down. We really didn't want to have another car payment, but we couldn't really get comfortable with our other options.

Just after signing the papers, 2 days before Christmas.
Somewhere along the way, I decided that I wanted to surprise Matt with a new car, his dream car (a VERY reasonable dream car, I might add) on Christmas morning.  I had to tell a few white lies and convince him that I was coming around to the moped idea.  I test drove the Nissan Cube and really liked it.  The insurance didn't increase too much because it's a very safe car.  And it has great gas mileage.  And it has a great warranty.  So, I decided that we would get Matt a Nissan Cube--as long as the dealer would meet my goals for price.  They did after 3 days of negotiating.

It was a few days of sneaking around and getting the help of family to help me pull off the surprise.  In the end, I signed the papers on Friday night (December 23rd, the same day Laura closed on her house!) and parked the brand-new-with-the-plastic-still-on-it in his dad's garage.

We went to Mark & Stephani's house on Christmas morning around 6am.  Dad drove the Cube over around 8 and had it parked around the side of their house.  Around 10 (before we were going to take a scheduled intermission from present-unwrapping), Matt unwrapped a gift which contained the key to his new car.  He was shocked when he went outside to see the Cube with a big red bow on it.

It was such a fun thing to surprise him with!  And it feels wonderful to have him driving around in a safe, reliable car!  Merry Christmas, to Matt (and to me!)!

    Laura bought a House!

So very proud of my youngest sister, who is now a homeowner.

It's been a long journey for her.  Most of these pictures were taken in June, right after she put an offer on this house.  Exactly 7 MONTHS later, she closed.

Laura with her house while it was still under contract.  (7 months ago)
Showing off one of the closets in one of the bedrooms.
One of the bedrooms.  We've already taken down the crown molding and primed & painted it.
    Her lovely kitchen.
We've already spent some time there painting and helping with the transformation, but I predict many more workdays at Laura's in our future.
